Sharing Instruments and Saving Costs

There are 6 full time hygienists at my office. We are being told to share the same instruments, as the dentists feel they will save money. Are there any studies on sharing instruments and cost saving? I'm concerned that sharing the instruments will mean that we will go through them faster, so it won't be cost effective.

I have not read anything about sharing instruments and saving costs. If you need to share, hopefully there will be enough instruments that can be sterilized in a timely manner. I would also suggest the hygienists calibrate with each other on sharpening so it is performed the same way on all instruments. The instruments will certainly lose longevity if they are not being sharpened correctly and with the same technique.
