Crystal Adams, MA, CDA, RDH, former director of the Dental Hygiene Program at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina, has left academia to become the associate director of the North Carolina Oral Health Collaborative. Also active in organized dental hygiene, Adams is a former president of the North Carolina Dental Hygienists’ Association, and she was instrumental in the legislative effort to enable dental hygienists to provide care in public health settings without undergoing a prior oral health evaluation by a dentist. This important victory improved the ability of public health dental hygienists to provide care to those facing significant barriers to professional dental treatment. Her passion for improving access to care led her to the North Carolina Oral Health Collaborative. The organization is dedicated to furthering systems-level changes to improve the oral and systemic health of all North Carolinians.
