Hygienists performing treatment on orally sedated patients

Are dental hygienists permitted to monitor and treat patients sedated with a schedule iv drug such as Ativan without a dentist or other staff member in the operatory with them? In my state, hygienists can do this with N2O, but I am seeking clarification regarding oral sedation.
