Oral Health Effects of Antiresorptive Medications

Oral health professionals need to be familiar with bisphosphonates and other antiresorptive medications due to their impact on dental health.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

1. Discuss the prevalence of osteoporosis, and the types and properties of antiresorptive drugs used to manage medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.
2. Describe when medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw was first reported, the estimated incidence rate, and factors that contribute to this condition.
3. Explain the oral anatomy most commonly affected, as well as clinical strategies for managing patients with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.
