Effective Approaches to Addressing Xerostomia

Roxanne Dsouza-Norwood, RDH, MS, is an assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Programs at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry, Division of Comprehensive Oral Health. In her current role, she works with dental, undergraduate dental hygiene, and graduate dental hygiene students in research projects, didactic education, and clinical education. She is the second-year dental hygiene clinic director and oversees undergraduate dental hygiene periodontology courses. With a background in both education and research, Dsouza has presented her research nationally and participated in and led several interprofessional initiatives across healthcare disciplines at UNC. Jamie Burgess-Flowers, MSW, LCSW, is a clinical assistant professor with dual faculty appointments at the UNC-CH School of Social Work and the Adams School of Dentistry. Her professional experience is in addressing behavioral health in positions ranging from project management to direct clinical practice. In addition to teaching graduate social work students, Burgess-Flowers teaches dental and dental hygiene students. She also provides direct patient care and provider consultation as the social work care coordinator in the Adams School of Dentistry student clinics, addressing barriers to care to improve patient outcomes.

Kimberly Sanders, PharmD, BCPS, is an assistant professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. In addition, she is an assistant professor at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. Sanders is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist and a member of numerous pharmacy professional organizations. Primarily involved in building and expanding on the partnership between UNC’s Schools of Pharmacy and Dentistry through initiatives to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical pharmacy services in dental practice clinics, she is also active in the creation of longitudinal interprofessional education curricula.
