EARLY WARNING PATHOGEN TESTING
Harmful pathogens are primary causes of periodontal disease. They can be measured with the highly sensitive and accurate MyPerioPath® oral test. Finding these bacteria early allows choices in frequency of professional treatment, types of self-care, and recommendations for lifestyle changes. Anaerobic bacteria can become embedded in plaque and cause significant inflammation and periodontal diseases. These bacteria have also been associated with diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, and birth complications. For patients with established disease, oral pathogen testing allows confirmation of visible symptoms, proper selection of antibiotics, and a means of measuring treatment effectiveness.
GENETIC RISK TEST FOR INFLAMMATION
Bacteria are only part of the picture. The intensity of a patient’s inflammatory response is partially linked to common genetic factors. The MyPerioID® test evaluates the interleukin-1 (IL-1) or interleukin-6 (IL-6) markers. OralDNA Labs also offers the popular Celsus One™ test—a profile of IL-1, IL-6, and six other gene markers, using next-generation sequencing.
ORAL CANCER
Dental offices are the front line of oral cancer surveillance. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 70% of cancers of the oropharynx may be linked to human papillomavirus (HPV). The CDC also notes that approximately 7% of Americans have oral HPV, and it is about three times more common in men than women. While most infections do not lead to cancer, a positive result for a high risk HPV type can alert health care professionals to the need for increased surveillance. OralDNA Lab’s OraRisk® HPV provides a test for HPV types 16, 18, and other high-risk variants.
