Help For Those Seeking Clarity Regarding Covid-19 Testing

As the third year of the global pandemic begins, understanding the ins and outs of COVID-19 testing is important.

As the third year of the global pandemic begins, understanding the ins and outs of COVID-19 testing is important. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has put together an online resource center that provides detailed information regarding the types of tests currently on the market and when they should be used. Available at:fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/coronavirus-disease-2019-testing-basics, the website also features a brief video on the subject.

The FDA provides the following guidance on when individuals need to take a diagnostic COVID-19 test (these apply regardless of vaccination status):

  • Symptoms of COVID-19 are present
  • Have been within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes of someone with COVID-19
  • Participated in high-risk activities such as traveling or being in a crowded indoor space
  • Recommended by a healthcare provider
