minis and micro-minis

The mini graceys are 10% thinner than a standard Gracey and the micro-minis are 20% thinner than a standard gracey. They are indicated for furcations, line angles, and root surfaces in narrow deep pockets. But, since they have a thinner shank and toe, what is the recommendation for using them with heavy or moderate sub gingival calculus? Is there a better instrument recommended for moderate-heavy calculus in deep pockets?
