Rebecca Wilder, RDH, MS, has been named the first assistant dean for professional development and faculty affairs at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. With this new appointment, Wilder will continue her work with the faculty mentoring program while creating new initiatives and enhancing current efforts around professional and career development.

Regarding her new appointment, Wilder told Dimensions of Dental Hygiene, “I am excited that our dean has seen the value in adding a school wide leadership position that promotes professional development. Many of our dental hygiene and dental colleagues are passionate about an academic career but need guidance in building skills in teaching, research/scholarship, and service and also how to navigate the promotion and tenure process. My goal is for the UNC Office of Professional Development and Faculty Affairs to be a place where all faculty can obtain the assistance they need to entrench themselves in the academic environment and build a long, satisfying career.“

A Dimensions Editorial Advisory Board member, Wilder is a professor, director of the Master of Science Degree Program in Dental Hygiene Education, and director of faculty development for UNC School of Dentistry. She is also the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Dental Hygiene, and has published approximately 200 articles, abstracts, book chapters, and editorials.
