In December 2016, Sunstar Americas and the National Dental Association hosted a program during the 2016 Greater New York Dental Meeting. The program, titled “Oral Health and Nursing: A Team Approach to Population Health,” was the second annual collaborative nurses training program. A total of 118 nurses and student participants from Columbia University and New York University were engaged in the 4-day program, which provides training on the interprofessional team approach. Program participants from the two universities also received hands-on training on how to perform an oral health screening at a community outreach program/clinic.

Sunstar Americas donated dental products for use at the event, while the National Dental Association was the face of the program. The goal of such training is that attendees will leave more knowledgeable on the importance of interprofessional collaboration and confident in conducting oral health screenings—ideally, as part of the routine health exam.
