Young Woman Needs Dentures After Years Without Dental Care

The popular morning television show, Today, highlighted a 37-year-old edentulous woman who wears dentures after years without dental care due to her inability to pay. After receiving regular dental care as a child, Katelyn Bowden no longer had dental insurance once she turned 18 and began work as a bartender. Struggling to make ends meet, she was unable to afford dental visits. Her untreated decay led to tooth loss and severe infection. She also faced social isolation and limited job prospects due to the poor appearance of her smile. Now married with dental insurance coverage through her husband, Bowden had her remaining teeth removed and wears full dentures. She hopes to highlight the problems faced by many low-income Americans who can’t afford dental care. Click here to read more.
