Those With Sleep Bruxism at Greater Risk of TMJ Disorders
A study out of Vienna, Austria, has found that people with sleep bruxism and specific tooth anatomy are more likely to face temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Published in the Journal of Advanced Research, results showed that the inclination and the location of wear facets, caused by bruxism, directly correlated to the intensity of the mechanical load on the TMJ. According to study author Benedikt Sagl, PhD, “The flatter the tooth, the higher the loading on the joint and therefore the higher the risk of a TMJ disorder.” Click here to read more.
