Many Americans Remain Without Dental Coverage

As Americans navigated the recent open enrollment for health insurance plans, many will remain without any coverage for oral healthcare services. A recent article in The Hill, notes that more than 20 years have passed since the United States Surgeon General Donna Shalala, PhD, stated, “You cannot be healthy without oral health.” Despite changes in leadership, economic recessions, and a global pandemic, millions of adults still lack access to affordable dental care. The Hill asserts the Biden administration has the authority to rectify this situation by adding dental care to the list of essential services, without the need for congressional approval. It contends that such a move would not only improve health outcomes but also alleviate the financial burden on individuals and families.
