Despite the herculean efforts of oral health professionals across the United States, approximately four out of 10 Americans older than age 30 have some type of periodontal disease. This presentation takes a close look at the status of periodontal health in the US, with a focus on the myriad factors — from missed diagnoses to limited access to periodontal specialty care — that keep the prevalence of periodontal diseases so high.
