Ann Eshenaur Spolarich, RDH, PhD, director of research at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health and Dimensions of Dental Hygiene Editorial Advisory Board member, has co-edited a new book on oral disease prevention with Fotinos S. Panagakos DMD, PhD, global director of scientific affairs at Colgate-Palmolive Co. The book, Prevention Across the Lifespan: A Review of Evidence-Based Interventions for Common Oral Conditions, provides clinicians with practical information on prevention of the most common oral health diseases, with a special emphasis on age-related conditions. The textbook focuses on the most current and best evidence available to support decision making for recommended preventive interventions.

“Teaching patients how to prevent oral diseases through risk reduction and behavioral change is essential to improving and maintaining oral health. As we all know, it is not easy to change behavior, and clinicians play a vital role in helping to encourage patients to adopt healthy behaviors,” says Spolarich. “Clinicians can help their patients by identifying negative risk behaviors, discussing risk reduction strategies, and motivating patients to set and achieve their goals. Patients rely on their care providers to recommend interventions that can support their efforts to improve their oral health.”

The book is produced and distributed free of charge by Professional Audience Communications through an educational grant provided by Colgate. Download a free copy of Prevention Across the Lifespan: A Review of Evidence-Based Interventions for Common Oral Conditions at: bit.ly/2p3Gqqy.
