Written by Sivaraman Prakasam, BDS, MSD, PhD—an assistant professor in the Department of Periodontology at Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland—the piece explores the difficulty in ascertaining whether certain periodontal health problems are due to normal aging or a developing disease process.
