Ethics Award Winner at NYU Announced

Carmen Hui, a May graduate of New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry’s Associate in Applied Science Degree Program in Dental Hygiene, is the recipient of the fourth annual Alla J. Wheeler Ethics and Professionalism Award. Sponsored by Dimensions of Dental Hygiene, this award is given to a graduating dental hygiene student who has demonstrated high levels of professionalism and ethics. Hui was nominated by her peers, who pinpoint her as “the person we can all say helped us at one point during the program.” Her meticulous patient care, dedication to instrumentation technique, and passion for volunteering were cited as reasons Hui was chosen for this award.

“I was thrilled when I heard I was nominated for the Alla J. Wheeler Ethics and Professionalism Award,” Hui tells Dimensions. “This award means a lot to me, knowing that hard work and dedication to the profession can be fruitful not only for myself, but for others, as well,” she continues. “With this award, I’ll practice my dental hygiene career according to the guidelines set forth by Ms. Wheeler, and treat every patient with ethical consistency and professionalism.” The award commemorates Alla J. Wheeler, RDH, MPA, a clinical assistant professor of dental hygiene at NYU and a Dimensions‘ Peer Review Panel member who passed away from cancer in June 2010.
