Coalition Aims to Promote Effective Infection Control
Support Clean Dentistry—a new coalition led by Oxnard, California-based DUX Dental in collaboration with oral health professionals—seeks to promote effective infection control and prevention in the dental setting. The coalition, in its effort to encourage communication between patients and oral health professionals, has released videos about infection control and prevention at supportcleandentistry.com, as well as on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The videos are designed to dispel patient concerns regarding the safety of receiving professional dental care services. The coalition also seeks to empower patients to ask questions regarding infection control and to openly communicate with their oral health care pro vi ders by expressing their expectations and concerns.
Sunstar Spotlight Explores Significance of Human Microbiome
Research conducted on the molecular and genetic basis of human biology and individuality has provided a deeper understanding of the microbes that inhabit virtually everything— most notably, the human body. In this month’s Sunstar Spotlight, Frances Doherty Genco, RDH, BS, discusses the National Institutes of Health’s Human Microbiome Project and its role in the development of personalized medicine, cures for disease, and novel preventive and treatment strategies. The study of the human microbiome is ongoing, and Genco provides the backstory to support its unique interaction in health and disease—shedding light on how the microbiome can be used to manage oral diseases and the systemic conditions with which they are associated.
