The second annual Teledentistry Innovation Awards, sponsored by MouthWatch LLC, an intraoral and teledentistry solutions company based in Metuchen, New Jersey, were presented at a ceremony during the Greater New York Dental Meeting in November 2019. Four teledentistry pioneers were honored: Paul Glassman, DDS, MA, MBA, of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California; Paul Labbe, DDS, of Planet Dental in Laredo Texas; Angie Stone, RDH, of Hylife Oral Health Alliance in Edgerton, Wisconsin; and MiQuel McRae, RDH, CDHC, of ToothBUDDS in Pima, Arizona.
The two dental hygienist honorees are dedicated to helping the underserved access professional oral health care services. Stone and her team of oral care specialists provide on-site hygiene services to older adults who live in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and private homes. They use teledentistry to document each patient visit with intraoral photos and videos and to communicate with family members and participating dentists to ensure their patients receive restorative care when needed.
McRae founded ToothBUDDS, a nonprofit organization composed of dental hygienists who provide oral care to underserved children in Pima, Arizona. She and her team provide education, screenings, prophylaxes, and fluoride treatments in local school settings.
