They’ve just started their orthodontic residency program, but six dentists are already making history. That’s because Bethany Chong, DDS; Amanda Budiman, DDS; Heather Stephens, DDS; Natalie Dang, DDS; Nicole Ranney, DDS; and Kristina Sakas, DDS, comprise the first ever all-female orthodontic residency class at the University of Southern California (USC) Ostrow School of Dentistry in Los Angeles since the program’s inception in 1934.

“We are pleased to see the growing interest in orthodontics among women,” notes Glenn T. Sameshima, BA, DDS, PhD, who has headed the program for 9 years. “USC is proud of this important ‘first’ in our dental school’s history.”
