The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) and American Dental Association (ADA) are advocating for license portability for both dentists and dental hygienists. As the licensure process for these oral health professionals varies from state to state, clinicians often face an arduous process before they can practice after moving to a new state. This process often includes a significant financial and time commitment as well as an additional licensing examination.

The ADHA and ADA are partnering with the Council of State Governments and the United States Department of Defense to create legislation that would facilitate interstate licensure agreements and reciprocity so dental hygienists and dentists can more easily move across state lines and continue to practice. The first meeting of this collaboration will take place on August 24.
