Clinical Insights: Protect Your Health With a Cordless Handpiece

From supporting good ergonomics to providing infection control safeguards, Pac-Dent’s ProMate CL offers dental hygienists a win-win in handpiece selection.

It is no secret that dental hygienists are at high risk for work-related injury. Repetitive movements, static posture, and awkward positioning can all lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). In fact, a study showed that 92% of oral health professionals experienced MSDs,1 and which dental team member was the most impacted? No surprise, dental hygienists.

Dental hygienists are not only at increased risk for MSDs, which can significantly impact career longevity, they are also charged with ensuring the safety of both themselves and their patients via appropriate infection control protocol. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic has only increased the stress surrounding effective infection control measures.

The bottom line is dental hygienists are stressed. Fortunately, there are many avenues available to help you improve your ergonomics and support safe clinical practice. One of these is Pac-Dent’s ProMate CL cordless prophy system.

Promate CLEliminating Heavy Cord Drag

Designed with ergonomics in mind, the Pac-Dent ProMate CL cordless prophy system provides you with independence from heavy cord drag, dual-mode speed control, and operator comfort during prophylaxis procedures. No need to raise your MSDrisk with the use of an old, outdated handpiece. Heavy with a motor at one end, a corded handpiece requires you to leverage your muscle strength even for the simplest of tasks. The Pac-Dent ProMate CL offers an optimally balanced and lightweight handpiece with no need for tubing. The absence of a cord will decrease the workload on your wrist and hands, while at the same time improve your access to intraoral areas within the oral cavity.

Safety is Most Important

While providing such health-saving benefits seems like plenty for one handpiece, the ProMate CL also enables the use of key infection control strategies. For example, your favorite disposable prophy angle is compatible with this handpiece, preventing cross-contamination and reducing costs by eliminating the need to purchase multiple handpieces. In accordance with all United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sterilization and infection control guidelines, the sterilizable outer sheath is steam autoclavable. The outer sheath also acts as a sterilizable protective cover, providing a barrier to the internal motor component. The autoclavable outer sheath features an onboard, multifunction button for power and rotation speed control. A disposable polyethylene barrier is available to cover the handpiece, which protects the inner module from contact with patients’ oral fluids. The base, handpiece, and AC adapter can be all cleaned using any CDC-approved, intermediate-level disinfectant wipe. n
