Dimensions’ Corporate Council Member Receives Prestigious Award

Frances Doherty Genco, BS, RDH, a member of Dimensions of Dental Hygiene’s Corporate Council, received the 2019 Oral Health Research Award from the Oral Health Research Group, part of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). Sponsored by Colgate Palmolive, the award was presented by Marsha Butler, PhD, Colgate’s director of scientific communications at the 97th General Session of the IADR in Vancouver in June. The purpose of the award is to recognize a body of meritorious research by a member of the IADR Oral Health Research Group.

Active in the IADR for more than 34 years, Genco has presented research, served as president of the Oral Health Research Group, and is currently a councilor on the governing body of IADR. After serving on the faculty for the Periodontics Department at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry,  for many years, Genco was instrumental in the successful commercialization of two locally delivered antimicrobials for the treatment of periodontitis and conducted studies on the systemic link to periodontal diseases. She has developed and implemented clinical programs and organized workshops and scientific meetings around the globe.
