Vermont Ups Reimbursement to Encourage Dentists to Accept Medicaid Patients

Low-income Vermont residents are between a rock and a hard place if they need more than preventive dental care. In central Vermont, only two dentists accept patients covered by Medicaid, leaving many with rampant decay or severe tooth pain with nowhere to turn besides emergency departments. The state legislature and governor hope to change this by increasing reimbursement for dentists treating patients covered by Medicaid with the hopes that this will encourage more dentists to accept these patients.
