
Targeting a Specific Protein May Significantly Improve Oral Cancer Outcomes
More than 10,000 Americans die each year due to oral cancer, and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common. Without treatment, OSCC has deadly consequences. Researchers at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine have identified a protein that stimulates the growth of OSCC tumors. They suggest that by targeting this protein— lysine-specific demethylase 1—either with medications or by genetically deleting it, the growth of OSCC may be significantly slowed.
