After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the prevalence and potential causes of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) worldwide.
  2. Identify the association between NAFLD/nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, metabolic syndrome, and periodontitis.
  3. Explain the dental hygienist’s role in mitigating the progression of NAFLD through both education and therapy.
