Genetic Protein May Be Key to Hindering Ability of SARS-CoV-2 to Replicate

New research shows that targeting the RNA protein, METTL3—used by the novel coronavirus to replicate—may enable the development of medications that can effectively treat COVID-19. Published in Genes and Development, the study found that the chemically inhibition of METTL3 had antiviral effects not only on SARS-CoV-2, but also on the viruses that cause the common cold. Study authors suggest this discovery bodes well for creating drugs that may stop the reproduction of the novel coronavirus. Click here to read more.
