CDC Updates Its Recommendations for Dental Providers

While the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that dental practices remain closed except for urgent or emergency treatment, it has updated its guidelines in light of the fact that offices in some states are beginning to open. The new updates, released on April 27, are as follows:

  • Everyone in the dental office, including staff and patients (unless receiving treatment), must wear face masks or cloth face coverings to decrease asymptomatic and presymptomatic transmission of the novel coronavirus.
  • Before entering the dental practice, patients should be screened for fever and symptoms of COVID-19.
  • All oral health professionals and staff members should be screened for fever and symptoms of COVID-19 before beginning their shift.
