Linda Brookman, MS, RDHAP, FSCDA, a fellow in special care dentistry, is an associate professor emeritus of clinical dentistry in the Division of Dental Public Health and Pediatric Dentistry at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She also taught in the Division of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene before the closure of the hygiene program for 20 years. Currently, Brookman continues as adjunct faculty for the dental school, while implementing medical/dental integration in an outpatient program called the Violence Intervention Program at the children’s outpatient medical clinic for the Los Angeles General Medical Center, a county hospital, and associated clinics. As a registered dental hygienist in alternative practice, she created a program within the medical clinic where she sees children and adolescents, providing dental and oral cancer screenings, oral health education, fluoride varnish application, and silver diamine fluoride application, and connecting children to dental homes. Brookman also educates Keck School of Medicine fourth year pre-physician students, as well as pediatric residents who rotate through the clinic.
She is a past president of the Los Angeles Dental Hygiene Society and is on the Board of the California Hygiene Political Action Committee. Linda also served as Speaker of the House of the California Dental Hygiene Association from June 2023- November 2025. She has presented several continuing education courses for CDHA.
Brookman was the co-director of the Neighborhood Mobile Dental Van Prevention Program, a grant-supported mobile clinic, through the dental school, where she supervised dental and dental hygiene students who provided preventive oral health services to underserved children at schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was also the supervising dental and dental hygiene faculty for the geriatric mobile dental unit at Hollenbeck Skilled Nursing Facility. She integrated teledentistry into both programs. A dental hygienist for 47 years, Brookman has presented continuing education courses nationally and internationally and also worked part-time in a periodontal practice in West Los Angeles for 18 years. She has written several articles for Dimensions of Dental Hygiene, a peer-reviewed clinical journal. @lbbrookman
