Beatriz Madrid Hicks, MA, RDH, is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Periodontics, Division of Dental Hygiene, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) where she has taught for the past 30 years. She has extensive experience in veterinary oral health, having worked on a collaborative project with UT Health San Antonio and the Alamo Community College District Palo Alto Veterinary Program. The program taught veterinary students about preventive oral health for cats and dogs, and enabled dental hygiene students to do a veterinary oral health extramural rotation at a veterinary office. Hicks has served as president of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha National Dental Hygiene Honor Society and currently serves as treasurer. She can be reached at: hicksb@uthscsa.edu.
