In late September, the oral health profession joined the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging and its Image Gently campaign. This alliance, which was founded by the Society for Pediatric Radiology, American College of Radiology, American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, is composed of health care professionals who are committed to safety in pediatric imaging. Today, Image Gently includes more than 80 medical, surgical, dental, and other health care organizations—serving more than a million providers worldwide.
The Image Gently campaign provides online educational and scientific materials to help dental professionals optimize the radiation levels used in imaging exams
performed on pediatric patients. Image Gently also offers downloadable materials to help parents ask more informed questions of their dental providers whenever X-rays are recommended for children.
Oral health professionals can visit imagegently.org to find out more about ensuring the safe use of imaging on children in the dental setting.
