With funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) set to expire in September 2015, the advocacy group Oral Health America (OHA) is asking dental professionals to express support for the passage of the CHIP Extension Act by contacting their senators. The extension, introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), would ensure the continuation of CHIP—which includes a guaranteed dental benefit for children—through 2019. The bill also includes performance incentives to offer dental coverage to pregnant women, as well as supplemental dental coverage to uninsured or underinsured children. With budget planning underway for the next fiscal year, OHA is hoping for speedy passage of the bill through the Senate to prevent any lapses in coverage.
