Amid Soaring COVID-19 Cases, Austria Reinstates Lockdown

With more than 15,800 new COVID-19 cases diagnosed within a 24-hour period, Austria has issued a total lockdown, lasting no more than 20 days, to help stem the surge. The country of 9 million had initially instituted a lockdown only for those who remain unvaccinated, but this was not enough to calm the huge uptick in cases. Austrians will need to work at home, and only businesses deemed essential will remain open. However, schools will not close.
