Will the Same Strategies Used to Combat the Delta Variant Work for Omicron?

According to World Health Organization (WHO) representatives, the same strategies used to fight the Delta variant of COVID-19 should also be effective against Omicron—the newest variant that is quickly spreading throughout the world. The use of travel bans to delay Omicron’s spread may provide more time to strategize against Omicron, noted WHO officials; however, with its appearance throughout the United States and other countries, this point seems moot.  The WHO suggests vaccines, social distancing, and mask wearing continue to be the most effective weapons against SARS-CoV-2.
