WHO Suggests Delaying Preventive Dental Care During the Pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended that non-emergency dental care, including prophylaxes and preventive treatment, be postponed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Released during a press conference on August 11, this suggestion is based on protecting the health of dental professionals and mitigating the risks posed by aerosol-generating procedures, such as ultrasonic instrumentation and polishing, which remain unknown at this time. WHO’s Chief Dental Officer Benoit Varenne, DDS, MPH, PhD, suggests that urgent and emergency dental care should be prioritized followed by non-aerosol-generating procedures. Read more here.
