University of Tennessee Team Awarded $1.7 Million for Opioid Research

Researchers in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health and Science Center (UTHSC) have received a $1.7 million National Institutes of Health awards to study if genetic differences make some people more susceptible to opioid addiction than others.

A team of two scientists will compare voluntary oxycodone intake between two strains of rats that differ in their vulnerability to stress to help identify genetic differences in stress response, oxycodone consumption, and stress-induced drug seeking, according to the college.
