UMass Lowell Receives NIDCR Grants for Craniofacial Research

Jennifer FIsh, PhD, assistant professor of biological sciences in the University of Massachusetts Lowell, has received two grants from the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research totaling more than $600,000 to conduct craniofacial research.

The funding supports the Oral Diseases and Disorders program’s research. The first grant, totaling $455,940, supports the program’s investigation into how mutations in the SATB2 gene cause cleft palate and low bone density. 

 The second grant, totaling $156,500 funds, research into how reductions of the Fgf8 gene during facial bone growth and gland development contribute to craniofacial disorders, according to a press release.
