Risk for Heart Inflammation Noted Among Young People Post-COVID-19 Vaccination
More than 20 million young people in the United States have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found 300 cases of myocarditis or pericarditis among this population following vaccination. The CDC states this number is very low compared to the total number of vaccinations administered and it is not known if it is directly related to COVID-19 vaccines. The heart inflammation appears to be more common among men than women and occurs more frequently after the second dose of the immunization. Most reported cases have been mild. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will meet this week to discuss whether any changes need to be made to immunization recommendations. Public health experts, however, suggest no changes will be needed, as the risk remains very small. Click here to read more.
