Research Shows Many Healthcare Professionals With COVID-19 Are Asymptomatic

A new meta-analysis published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that of those healthcare professionals who tested positive for COVID-19, 40% were asymptomatic. The data were gleaned from more than 230,000 healthcare professionals across the globe. The meta-analysis, which included 97 studies published in the past year, also found that nurses were most likely to test positive for the novel coronavirus followed by physicians, and those working in hospital settings were at greatest risk. Study authors warn that asymptomatic healthcare professionals who are unaware of their COVID-19 status pose a transmission risk to both their patients and colleagues, and suggest that all exposed healthcare personnel receive universal screening. Read more here.
