OSHA to Enforce COVID-19 Safety Rules for Healthcare Providers

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) began enforcing its COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standard for Healthcare on July 6, 2021. The standard went into effect on June 21. Now federal OSHA inspectors will investigate healthcare providers who have been brought to the agency’s attention due to employee complaints, agency referrals, death or hospitalization of an employee(s) due to the novel coronavirus, and higher than average COVID-19 infection rates. The emergency standard necessitates that all healthcare providers, including dental practices, institute a SARS-CoV-2 infection prevention program, notify OSHA of COVID-19 cases, and compensate employees when a workplace COVID-19 outbreak prohibits them from working.
