New Mutations to the Novel Coronavirus Won’t Hurt Vaccine Effectiveness

As the United Kingdom sounded the alarm that a mutated version of the novel coronavirus was rapidly spreading across the region and neighboring countries shut down travel from the UK, most scientists note that this behavior is not unusual for viruses, nor will it negate the efficacy of available vaccines. Several experts suggest that mutations strong enough to render the current COVID-19 vaccine arsenal ineffective would take years to evolve.
