Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Series Now Has Full Approval From FDA

While the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine series received full approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) back in August 2021, the agency gave the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines the same green light on January 31, 2022.  The approval was granted after 6 months of data demonstrating efficacy and safety were provided by the pharmaceutical company. This approval replaces the Emergency Use Authorization that had been in place for the Moderna vaccine since December 2020. Millions of people across the globe have already received the Moderna shot series as soon as it was made available. It is the first time Moderna, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company, has had a product receive licensure in the US.
