Germany Recommends Smallpox Vaccine for Those Exposed to Monkeypox

As monkeypox continues to spread throughout the globe, Germany’s vaccine board has recommended that Germans who are exposed to anyone with monkeypox should receive two doses of the smallpox vaccine Imvanex. Those who have never received a smallpox immunization should receive two doses, 28 days apart, while one dose will suffice for those who have already been vaccinated against smallpox. Monkeypox is within the same family as smallpox. Germany has more than 130 cases of monkeypox, all among non-monogamous men who have sex with men.
