Finland Uses Dogs to Sniff Out the Novel Coronavirus at Helsinki Airport

In efforts to keep SARS CoV-2 out of the small Northern European country, Finnish public health officials are using dogs trained to recognize the smell of the novel coronavirus at the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to identify passengers who may be infected. Preliminary research suggests that properly trained dogs may be able to sniff out the virus with 100% accuracy, even among those who are asymptomatic. Currently, these dog-based tests are voluntary and passengers who test positive then take a traditional COVID-19 test to ensure accurate diagnoses. Read more here.
