Experts Across the Globe Disagree About COVID-19 Treatments

While there is no cure for COVID-19, several treatments have become available to reduce morbidity and mortality among those who experience severe illness following infection with SARS-CoV-2. In the United States, the antiviral medication, remdesivir, is used to shorten the hospital stay of those with severe COVID-19. However, the World Health Organization has just come out against the use of remdesivir, citing a lack of evidence on efficacy and its high cost. There is also little consensus on the effectiveness of convalescent plasma and the anti-inflammatory drug baricitinib, which is currently used to treat arthritis.
