Even as Cases Rise, COVID-19 Mortality Continues to Decline

As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to grow rapidly across the United States, mortality rates have steadily decreased, with a 30% drop in deaths seen since April, according to researchers at the University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in Seattle. The institute reports that 0.6% of COVID-19 patients currently die compared to 0.9% of COVID-19 patients who were dying at the start of the pandemic. Experts suggest that more effective treatments—such as the use of blood thinners and the steroid dexamethasone—have helped reduced the number of COVID-19-related casualties. Read more here.
