Due to the Pandemic, Experts Urge the Public to Get Flu Shots Early

Prior to COVID-19, flu shots were most often administered in October to ensure the vaccination would last throughout flu season. In the midst of a global pandemic, this recommendation has changed, and public health experts now suggest receiving the flu shot as soon as possible. Experts are concerned that healthcare resources, which have already been taxed due to COVID-19, may be overwhelmed even in the presence of a mild flu season. The nation’s largest pharmacy chains, Walgreens and CVS, already have flu shots available.

In order to improve utilization of the flu shot and other immunizations, the United States Department of Health and Human Services is now allowing pharmacists to administer all vaccinations, including the flu shot, to children age 3 and older. Read more here.
