Does Europe’s Exploding COVID-19 Surge Bode Poorly for the US?

Despite widespread access to COVID-19 vaccines, Europe is experiencing a fall surge in COVID-19 cases, forcing many countries to implement lockdown measures once again. Case rates have jumped by as much as 50% in some areas, and the continent reported more than 2 million new cases over the past week. However, Western European hospital and mortality rates have not commensurately increased due to high vaccination numbers. Eastern Europe, with low vaccination compliance, has not fared as well with some countries experiencing the highest death rates since the pandemic began.
