EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the use of clear aligner therapy (CAT) and how it is implemented.
  2. Identify the benefits and contra­indications of the treatment.
  3. Explain the dental hygienist’s role in CAT.
  4. List the auxillary aids that are beneficial in self-care for patients undergoing CAT.

Stacey McKinney, RDH, MSEd, is an assistant professor and senior clinic coordinator in the Dental Hygiene Program at Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale. Her teaching responsibilities focus on preventive oral care, teaching methodologies, and advanced periodontics. McKinney has more than 10 years of clinical dental hygiene experience in community-based and general practice. A member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association and American Dental Education Association, she can be reached at: smckinney8@siu.edu.


Kelli D. Whittington, PhD, RN, CNE, is an assistant professor and director of the nursing programs at SIU Carbondale. She has nearly 30 years of experience as a nurse in healthcare, including intensive care unit, oncology, management, and administration settings, as well as academia. She has educated all facets of nurses from certified nurse assistants to baccalaureate-prepared registered nurses to doctoral level registered nurses.


Sandra Collins, MBA, PhD, is a professor and director of the Health Care Management Bachelor of Science Program and the Master of Health Administration/Master of Health Informatics Programs at SIU Carbondale. She has authored multiple publications and presentations on management and clinical topics related to the field of healthcare.
