
Do Clear Masks Improve Patient Experience?
A study found that surgeons who wore clear masks so their mouths could be seen received higher ratings from patients than surgeons wearing traditional masks. Surgeons with clear masks were found to be more empathetic and trustworthy, as well as better at patient education. Patients’ inability to view providers’ faces may negatively impact these qualities among healthcare professionals. The study included 200 participants and was published in JAMA Surgery.
